Specialised Carbon Steel
Specialised ASTM A106 Grade A contains a maximum of 0.25% carbon, with a minimum tensile strength of 48,000 psi and a minimum yield strength of 30,000 psi. It is suitable for bending, flanging, and similar forming operations, and is suitable for moderate service conditions.
Specialised ATM A106 Grade C contains a maximum of 0.35% carbon, with a higher minimum tensile strength of 70,000 psi and a minimum yield strength of 40,000 psi. This grade offers enhanced mechanical properties, making it more robust for demanding applications. Preferred for high-pressure and high-temperature applications due to its superior strength.
Specialised API High Yield grades of steel pipe, such as API 5L X52, X60, X65, X70, and X80, are primarily used in the oil and gas industry for their ability to withstand the high pressures and mechanical stresses involved, especially in pigging operations. High-yield grades ensure the structural integrity of the pig launcher, reducing the risk of failures and ensuring safe operations. Their high strength-to-weight ratio allows for efficient handling and operation, which is essential for the frequent pressure cycles experienced by pig launchers.
These high yield grades are also ideal for slurry pipelines, structural components, conveyor systems and drill pipes due to their ability to withstand extreme loads and under high pressure, mechanical stress and harsh environmental conditions.
